11. Certificates and Diplomas
This section presents the academic regulations governing the following:
- Certificate in American Sign Language
- Certificate in Carillon Studies
- Certificate in Nunavut Public Service Studies
- Certificate in Public Service Studies
- Certificate in Teaching of English as a Second Language
Other non-credit professional and development certificate programs are offered by units of the university; these are not within the scope of this Calendar.
12.0 Admission to Certificate Programs
12.1 Admission Requirements
The admission requirements for the various certificates and diplomas are listed in the Admissions Requirements section of this Calendar.
12.2 Transfer of Credit
In each certificate and diploma, at least 4.0 credits must be taken at Carleton, including all required credits. See also 5.3: Minimum Number of Carleton Credits.
13.0 Regulations for Certificates
Certificate in American Sign Language
- Offered by the School of Linguistics and Language Studies
- May be taken concurrently with a B.A. program in Linguistics or Applied Linguistics and Discourse Studies, or with other majors, or as a post-degree certificate
- Successful completion requires a grade of C or higher in all courses taken at Carleton University under the CASL program.
Certificate in Carillon Studies
- Offered by the School for Studies in Art and Culture
- May be taken concurrently by students in any undergraduate degree program, or as a standalone certificate
- The course requirements may be found in the Music program section of this Calendar
- Successful completion requires grades of C or higher in all courses
Certificate in Public Service Studies
Certificate in Nunavut Public Service Studies
- Offered by the School of Public Policy and Administration
- The course requirements (6.0 credits) may be found in the School's program section of this Calendar.
- Successful completion requires a C or better in at least half of the credits taken at Carleton.
- May not be taken concurrently with any undergraduate degree.
- Students who have already completed a degree are ineligible.
Certificate in Teaching of English as a Second Language
- Offered by the School of Linguistics and Language Studies
- The course requirements (5.0 credits) may be found in the Linguistics and Language Studies program section of this Calendar.
- Students must pass an English proficiency test.
- Successful completion requires grades of C or better in all courses
- May be taken following successful completion of any undergraduate degree or concurrently with an Honours degree provided the Major CGPA in the Honours program is at least 7.00.
